All About Us
Serving Gamers, Empowering GMs
We started with the goal of hosting under-served and in-demand RPGs with a consistently great experience for players at the convention. Our GMs host 90+ events at Gen Con each year, and we continue to find more opportunities to host games at local conventions and game stores.
our history
Before MAMS…
The idea for MAMS Gaming came from our experiences at Gen Con 2010 and 2011. We had been away from the convention for a few years and dived back in wanting to try as many new RPGs as we could get into. Unfortunately, we ended up playing mostly the same stuff we could play at home, and the quality of the events was not what we expected from a convention like Gen Con.
On the ride home in 2011, as we were discussing whether it was worth returning, we made the decision: if we think we can do better, then we should try! And that was the birth of MAMS Gaming.
And so, it Begins
2012 was our first year, and it was a roller coaster. Gen Con has a lot of rules for how to host events at their convention. We made a lot of mistakes but found the event coordination staff was extremely helpful and professional. We also received a lot of good feedback about our organizational skills and how much fun everyone had. So, we returned in 2013, and again in 2014.
Once again, on the drive home from Indy in 2015, we decided it was time for MAMS to expand and offer more events.
MAMS Explodes!
We reached out to some of the GMs we had met at Gen Con the past few years. Our team grew quickly, and we had a lot more games to offer. It was a big year, and we were a little worried what would happen. But we succeeded and had a great time doing it!
Once more, on the drive home, we began planning for an even bigger year in 2016. It wasn’t until several months later we found out not only were we a hit with our players, but with Gen Con. We had earned the Premier Gaming Group designation from the convention.
The Modern Era
It has been a wild ride and a lot of fun. Approaching hosting events in a professional way requires we experiment a lot. Our experiments in 2016 led to two new traditions: a BIG 4-table Cypher event and recruiting GMs we met or interacted with in previous years or reached out to us online. This has meant our group now offers dozens of RPGs each year and you can depend us to have the games you want to play!
